Sonequa Martin-Green plays the character of Commander Michael Burnham in Star Trek: Discovery.

Martin-Green has said she wasn’t a Star Trek fan growing up, though she was aware of how Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. convinced Nichelle Nichols to stay on the original series.

Martin-Green won a Saturn Award for her performance as Burnham at the 2018 ceremony and which was the first industry award she was nominated for. This was followed by a second nomination in 2019 in the same category, which she also won.
